Geothermal Ukraine successfully organized the first International GEOENERGY Forum 2024 in Ukraine, held online on September 26-27.
This two-day event brought together over 90 experts and participants from around the globe to discuss the vital role of geothermal energy in shaping Ukraine's energy future.
The event was opened with a Welcome Keynote Speech from representatives of International Geothermal Association, European Geothermal Energy Council, Recovery and Reform Support Team at the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, Energy Transition Coalition and Decarbonization Fund of Ukraine.
On the first day, we provided a robust platform for collaboration, discussion and knowledge sharing with around 25 speakers delivering insightful presentations from leading companies, organizations and institutions: Baseload Capital, Innargi, ThinkGeoEnergy, Arup, Arctic Green, TNO, CSIC, DTESS, Baker Hughes, CeraPhi, Primeval Energy, Institute of Geology& State Commission for Mineral Reserves of Ukraine, Asters, Heriot-Watt University, NORCE, SHOGenergy, Association of Gas Producers of Ukraine, Olsights, TEVERRA, Enovate Ai and Rystad Energy.
The Agenda of the second day included:
• SPE Geothermal Workshop which combined professionals from SPE Central Ukraine Section and SPE Geothermal Technical Section - GTTS.
• Dissemination of project results, where Verkís Consulting Engineers and Geothermal Ukraine presented significant findings on the "Geothermal direct use in the western part of Ukraine".
• Roundtable Discussion: Future growth of geothermal energy, supported by the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Iceland, International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and Verkís Consulting Engineers.
Key takeaways from the forum included the recognition of geothermal energy as a cornerstone in Ukraine’s energy transition, the critical importance of fostering public-private partnerships and the need for regulatory frameworks that incentivize investment in geothermal projects. The discussions also underscored geothermal’s potential to enhance Ukraine's energy independence and resilience, particularly in the face of ongoing challenges.
